This is probably the only painting you’ll ever see of Windsor Castle painted from this particular spot.
In 2024 I entered an open air painting competition. They gave me this location — one of the Castle’s exclusive terraces. For security reasons, tourists aren’t allowed up there. I was.
The flag was flying at full mast. Which means the King was inside. I’m well aware he’s also an artist. He didn’t come to say hello.
I didn’t win a prize. But standing on that terrace, watching a military parade from above while painting the Castle in front of me, was something I won’t forget. You don’t visit that part of Windsor every day.
Everything that went into making this is inside it. The drive to Windsor. Building my own support. Sealing the canvas. The parade I couldn’t paint but watched from above. The flag. The King somewhere behind those walls.
You’re getting a piece of the history of England and the Windsor Castle, painted there, in front of it, on a day when the King was home.
