The River Cam does something unexpected when you see it from the water. The reflections shift with every ripple. The green of the banks bleeds into the surface. The bridge sits in the distance like it’s been there forever, because it has.
I was punting along trying to stay upright when the scene stopped me. The light was doing something I hadn’t planned for. That’s usually when the best paintings happen.
The water carries the whole thing. Take it away and there’s nothing left.
