I’d run from Kensington to Parliament Hill that morning. Half seven, no plan, just wanted to see the sunrise from up there. I’ve stood on that hill with friends, with family, more times than I can count. It’s one of those views everyone in London ends up at eventually.

This was one of the first larger watercolours I painted. Bigger paper, bigger risk. The city laid out below like it’s giving something away for free.

If you collect paintings of London, this one belongs on your wall.

Watercolour on paper, 50 x 50 cm. One of a kind.

With bold colours and expressive brushstrokes, this piece leans into the energy of the scene, distilling the essence of Hampstead in a way that feels alive and immediate. It’s not just a street—it’s a moment, a memory, a piece of London that never stands still.

It is the spot. The highest point of Hampstead Heath, where Londoners have been coming for centuries to escape the city and look back at it from a distance. On a clear day you can see everything. The Shard. St Paul’s. The whole skyline laid out in front of you.

But this painting is not about the skyline.

It is about the sky above it.

That evening the light did something extraordinary. The kind of pink that makes you stop walking and just stare. The kind of colour that feels almost too much, too vivid, too cinematic to be real.

I painted it exactly as I saw it.  Just honest watercolour and a sky that earned every shade of pink.

That is the thing about painting on location. You cannot plan these moments. You just have to be there when they happen.

This painting is one of those moments, frozen on paper.
